Theatre Faculty/Staff Openings

NDSU Theatre is conducting simultaneous searches for two tenure track faculty in directing and movement due to retirements.  Secondary teaching assignments made based on respective skills of candidates.

Assistant Professor-Theatre/Directing

Tenure track faculty member in Theatre performance, primary expertise in Directing. Responsibilities:  teaching multiple levels of directing, theatre history and literature, and directing one mainstage production annually. Additional assignments depend on expertise and need; may include Acting, Introduction to Theatre, Stage Management, World Theatre/Dance.

NDSU Theatre is accredited by NAST and part of the Division of Performing Arts. We offer BFAs in Performance, Musical Theatre, and Technical Theatre, and the BA/BS. The department has roughly 55 majors, seven faculty members, several adjuncts, and staff.

Minimum qualifications:  terminal degree in Theatre; training, expertise/experience in directing; abilities in Theatre history/literature; demonstrated commitment to outreach and research/creative work; effective oral/written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with all constituents in a mutually supportive environment.
Preferred qualifications:  Interest and training in stage management; experience teaching in other areas above; professional experience as a director, performer, and/or stage manager; abilities in multicultural theatre or dance; expertise social engagement and/or related entrepreneurial skills; demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity; established and recognized creative/research agenda and accomplishments.

Assistant Professor-Theatre/Movement

Tenure track faculty member in Theatre performance with primary area expertise in Movement. Responsibilities:  teaching multiple levels of movement, directing one mainstage production each year, working closely with adjunct faculty members in dance. Additional assignments depending on expertise and departmental need, may include Acting, advanced acting topics, Introduction to Theatre, Stage Management, World Theatre/Dance, other dance courses.

Minimum qualifications:  terminal degree in Theatre or related field such as dance; experience as director; demonstrated commitment to outreach and research/creative work; effective oral/written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work collegially and effectively with all constituents in a mutually supportive environment.

Preferred qualifications: interest/training in Theatre history/literature/theory, stage management and/or choreography; demonstrated pedagogical ability in above; professional experience as director, choreographer, performer, stage manager; ability to teach multicultural theatre/dance; expertise with social engagement and/or entrepreneurial skills; demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity; established and recognized creative/research agenda/accomplishments.
