This year’s program highlights great choral literature found in the standard concert repertoire. Pieces of note in this year’s program are the double choir motet In dulci jubilo by Baroque composer Samuel Scheidt, Arvo Part’s Magnificat and the stunning and not often heard Friede auf Erden by early 20th c. composer Arnold Schoenberg. The NDSU Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Dr. Michael Weber will be performing vocal chamber music of the Renaissance and 20th century. The 2011 winning composition in the Edwin Fissinger Choral Competition will be performed as well as American folk songs and spirituals.
The NDSU Concert Choir has a rich and distinguished tradition of performing the highest quality choral literature at the highest level of artistry. Under Dr. Jo Ann Miller’s direction, the choir has performed at state, regional and national music conferences – including seven North Central ACDA conferences and the National ACDA conference in San Antonio. The choir is honored to be performing at the 2012 North Central ACDA conference on February 9th as a part of this year’s tour. The NDSU Concert Choir performs regularly with the Fargo Moorhead Symphony and tours overseas every three years. The choir will be traveling to countries along the Northern Mediterranean coast as part of this spring’s International Tour. Choir members are from many different majors at NDSU and more than two-thirds are music majors. The 61-voice choir rehearses daily and performs several concerts a year on campus in addition to annual spring tours. The choir has produced more than 30 recordings.
