NDSU Gold Star Marching Band Reaches Record Numbers
August 20, 2010
The North Dakota State University Gold Star Marching Band has reached record numbers for the upcoming season. With over 220 members from all majors across campus, the band is prepared to excite audiences with some old favorites – such as Hey Baby!, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Pretty Fly for a White Guy - in addition to songs from movies such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Wars, E.T., and Superman.
"The Gold Star Band has been a tradition since 1904," states John Miller, director of the NDSU Disivion of Fine Arts, "but I suspect there has never been as much enthusiasm as we're seeing this year. I've watched some rehearsals, and when you get 220 excited and talented students together…well, you just have to see and hear it to believe it!"
The band has grown significantly under the direction of Dr. Sigurd Johnson. Over the past three years, the Gold Star Marching Band has nearly tripled in size, acquired new uniforms, and set up a percussion pit in the Fargodome.
