Art Cinema Series Announced
August 9, 2011
The NDSU Art Cinema Series, a partnership with the NDSU Department of Visual Arts and the Fargo Theatre, will begin in September with the showing of short films by the Quay Brothers (Phantom Museums and Street of Crocodiles). The film will run one night only, Monday, September 12, at 7:00 PM at the Fargo Theatre. Tickets are $5 each.
Since the late 1970s, identical twins Stephen and Timothy Quay have made a unique contribution to animation in general and the puppet film in particular. Filtering arcane visual, literary, musical, cinematic and philosophical influences through their own utterly distinctive sensibility, each Quay film rivets the attention through hypnotic control of décor, music and movement, evoking half-remembered dreams and long-suppressed childhood memories, fascinating and deeply unsettling in turn. Not rated, 2007.
The NDSU Art Cinema Series presents an intelligent and unique film once a month at the Fargo Theatre. Future films include:
|October 10||Guy Maddin's Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary and The Eye Like A Great Balloon|
|November 14||Peter Greenaway's Rembrandt's J'Accuse|
Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire
|February 6||Francois Bertrand’s Van Gogh: Brush with Genius|
|April 2||Marcel Camus's Black Orpheus|
|April 30||Anton Corbijn's Control|
