Jones, Froelich to Present Lecture-Performance

October 23, 2013

Robert Jones, Professor of Voice, and Andrew Froelich, Professor of Piano, were selected to present a lecture-performance at the College Music Society National Conference in Cambridge, MA, October 31-November 2.

Titled “Four Poemes, Op. 5 by Charles Martin Loeffler: A Boston Composer’s Exploration of Decadence,” the lecture-performance was present through discussion and performance regarding how Loeffler’s music represents the Decadent style.  Loeffler (1861-1935) introduced distinctly French qualities to his music during the Gilded Age.  Complex harmonies and chord structures, obscured tonalities, varied textures and free treatment of form are among his musical illustrations.

Freelance violinist Eric Jones from Carrollton, TX, accompanied Jones and Froelich during this lecture-performance.
