The Politicial Science program offers both a major and a minor in Political Science. The Political Science major comes in three forms: standard major; pre-law; and public service. Click on the buttons below to find out more information.

Major Sample Curriculum Prelaw Public Service Minor

Political Science Major

Total Number of Required Credits: 37
(All courses listed below are worth 3 credits each.)

III. Electives: Nine hours of political science elective are required; six of which must be from permanently numbered courses.Courses which are eligible to fulfil this requirement may come from Special Topics classes by teh Political Science Department, classes not selected to meet the requirements in Section I and II above, or any of the following courses:

215 -- Problems and Policies in American Government
216 -- Campaigns and Elections
230 -- Judicial Process
350 -- Gender Issues and the Law
351 -- Women and Politics OR 360 -- Principles of Public Administration

Any change of a required course in the major must be approved by the Department of Criminal Justice and Political Science.

Pre-Law Program

The NDSU Department of Criminal Justice and Political Science offers a special major program with a Pre-Law Emphasis. This program is designed to prepare students for the challenges of law school.

Public Service Option

The political science major at North Dakota State University has a special public service option which provides students with the opportunity to concentrate their course work in two non-teaching and non-law professional areas of study and enables them to prepare for private and public sector employment. The program provides students with a substantial background in the study of government, which comprises the fields of political behavior, political theory, international relations, and the judiciary. Integrated within the curriculum of study is a 15-credit internship which may be taken at various levels of government and of major political party organizations.
