How to care for azaleas

What is an azalea?

The azalea is a very popular deciduous shrub. It is a great plant for landscaping or brightening up a room. It blooms in spring for about one to two weeks. Depending on the plant there are many different colors of flowers. Some of these colors include crimson, purple, pink, orange or white.

Where To Plant:

• Whether planting outside or inside azaleas should be placed in a partially shaded area.

• The soil must have very good drainage.
• The soil needs to be a little acidic, the pH being between 5-6.

• The roots must be kept cool and moist.
• It is very important for your azalea to have a 5 cm layer of mulch.
• Do not over-water. Let the top of the soil dry out before watering again.
• Pruning azaleas will encourage branching.
