Exercise 2 - Vostock

Geology 440/640 –Vostock Ice Core Exercise 2

1, Download deuterium data for the last 400 ka (source NOAA
      Paleoclimatology Data Center
      <http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/paleo/icecore/antarctica/vostok/vostok.html>

2. Plot delta deuterium values (δD) on the y-axis  showing more negative values at bottom of the graph.

Plot age on the x-axis with age increasing to the right

3.   On the plot identify major glacials and interglacials

4. What is the length of the last glacial?

5. What is the average length of glacials during the last 400 ka?

6. What is the average length of interglacials?

7. Plot a depth (y-axis) to age (x-axis curve for the Vostock core

8. Describe the relationship between depth and age based on your plot
