Author's Bios: A Word about Student Writers

Michael Bellew

I was born in Minot, ND where I currently attend high school at Magic City Campus. I will be a senior this fall. I am involved in Football and Track and my favorite school courses are science and math classes. I came to Govenor's School for Business because business is an area of study I have had no expierience in. I chose creative writing as my Fine Art because writing is something I do for a hobby. In the future I plan to be a heart surgeon.

Georgia Dahlquist

I reside in Lansford, a small community in the middle of nowhere. Not that the description is much help to finding Lansford, but most people in Lansford are either lost or on their way to somewhere else. I will be a junior in the fall, although North Dakota only seems to have two seasons, winter and road construction. I’m not too involved in my school. Most of my extracurricular activities consist of teachers telling me that I must do this and that. I, then, proceed onto my silent acceptance and hurriedly work on the said activity until I squander all possibilities of time to socialize. Then I find time to discuss all things of no importance with my group, talk about socializing… In the free time that I manage to find, I enjoy reading, collecting encyclopedias, and trying to avoid sunlight. I like to incorporate a small joke at the end of each creative writing piece that I’ve written for the Governor’s School class. Even though the jokes are generally not humorous, I go on writing lame jokes. In the immortal words of Mr. Forrest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that.”

I am from Linton. I'm going to be a Junior next year. Thanh Ngo was the foreign exchange student at my school.
We're great friends. We help each other think up ideas and just have fun. I attend Governor's School for Science. I've learned about anti-corrosive coatings with Victoria Gelling. I'm from a family who loves to read. I even get in trouble at normal school for doing such a deed from both teachers and students. I like to write stories. Even about myself.

Wes Halseth

Hello, my name is Wes Halseth. I was born and raised in Minot, ND, with some minor detours to Williston and Burlington, ND. I attend Bishop Ryan High School, and will be a senior this coming fall. I am mostly interested in science, and thus I came to Governor’s School for science. I dream of someday becoming a doctor (of medicine) and hope that I can achieve this goal. At first I was reluctant to be in creative writing, because I have bad penmanship, and I type slowly. I am glad that I was in it because it was thoroughly enjoyable, and it got the creative juices flowing. If you come to Gov. School, my one advice to you is to bring a fan, you’ll find out why. :)

Naveena Lall

I am from Fargo , and I will be a junior this coming fall. I enjoy participating in speech, debate, student congress, and key club; I also like to hang out with friends and go to movies. I am here at Governor’s School for Mathematics; in class we have covered a wide variety of topics ranging from cryptology to computer science. I chose creative writing for my fine arts class because I enjoy reading and writing poetry.

Thanh Ngo

I am an exchange student in Linton. I am from Vietnam. In case you wonder, it is in Asia and it is really close to China. Actually, it is right next to China, when I say next to, it’s like under China. And just in case you still wonder, we speak Vietnamese. I learn English since I was in 2nd grade and so I decided to go on an exchange program last year. I’m going to be a senior next year. Apparently, right now, I am at NDSU, Fargo for Governor’s School (otherwise you wouldn’t be able to read this). I actually enjoy writing a lot but since English is my second language, I have to spend a lot of time on them. Stories are my favorite kind, just short stories, not really flash fictions since I tend to write more than I expect. I have tried poetry, but I don’t think I’m really good at those, Haiku maybe. I think Creative Writing is really enjoyable since you can write about anything you want. It’s a good way to express your feelings. It is kind of a relaxation after a day full of Math. Yes, I am in Math. Math is cool. Right now, I enjoy playing with the Rubix’s cube. I also like to talk, as you probably already noticed. But this is all I have for now.

Kassandra Elizabeth Ryden

I grew up just having a mom; we lived in a small area for most of my life. I have many hobbies; I enjoy singing, acting, writing, dancing, talking on my cell phone, hanging with friends, and being outside. I also like to dance in the rain. I am quiet until you get to know me. I have a spit-fire personality. I want to become a singer/actress/writer when I get older. I'm hoping to go to Duluth for college. My dream job(s) are to work the family business and/or work at Trollwood Performing Arts School.

Megan Taggart

I have lived in the small town of Ellendale for almost three fourths of my life, which is a little sad now that I think about it. I will be a junior in high school this fall which scares me. Before I know it, I will be graduating from the University of the Undecided, which is not in Ohio. I am a movie quoting machine… at times. My favorite movie to quote is What a Girl Wants starring Amanda Bynes, and in case you didn’t know, when I said the Ohio/University thing, it came from that movie. Other than watching movies and quoting them, I also love reading novels (clean Christian novels are preferred) and playing games with my family. I have a part time job and I am hoping to be able to go out for speech this year. This concludes the interesting facts about me. If you wish to find out more, you may not contact me, but you can pray that by some undesirable miracle we meet in this lifetime.
