1. Carbon World is the student-edited literary magazine of North Dakota State University. We publish one issue per year. Carbon World accepts submissions in all literary genres, including fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, visual art, and new media. A compact disk will accompany this year's magazine, so electronic literary and artistic material is especially encouraged.

2. We suggest you submit 3 to 5 poems, one prose manuscript of up to 25 double-spaced pages, 3-5 photographs, or 1-4 hypertext, audio, or new media pieces.

3. Though you may submit hardcopies of your work, we prefer submission by email attachment (Microsoft Word .doc for traditional print material; .html, .jpeg, .swf, etc. for new media work and photographs of art). If submitting an especially large file, it's best to zip or compress it before sending.

Prose manuscripts should be double-spaced; poetry may be single-spaced. Clearly indicate any space or stanza breaks, especially at the end of each page.

For large paintings and sculptures and other fine arts submissions: you may send photographs of your work which you've taken yourself, or you may contact the Carbon World editors for help in producing quality prints of your work.

4. We seek work of all schools and tastes. Please, however: no greeting card verse, floral fonts, or cliché- dominated language. It is always a good idea to examine sample copies of a magazine before submitting. Sample copies of Carbon World are available (see contact information below).

5. A stamped, self-addressed envelope (SASE) with sufficient postage must accompany hardcopy submissions. This is for our reply and any work being returned. Be sure to retain extra copies of all your work.

6. Writer’s name, address, phone number and/or email address should appear clearly on any work submitted. On traditional print materials, this information should appear on the top of each page submitted.

7. Submission deadline is January 27, 2004.
