"Instabilities and Chaos in Lasers and other Physical Systems"
Professor Lee W. Casperson
Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Portland State University
The existence of instabilities and chaos in practical physical systems is
an increasingly familiar and well understood phenomenon. Several examples
of chaotic behavior will be discussed and demonstrated. The general
mathematical requirements underlying instabilities and chaos will be
reviewed; and the history, theoretical interpretations, and practical
implications of laser instabilities will be considered.
