"Spinodal Decomposition and its Applications"

Professor Alexander Wagner
Department of Physics
North Dakota State University

In this talk, I will describe the theory of spinodal decomposition and how we can use the lattice Boltzmann method to simulate demixing phenomena. I will then discuss two practical systems in which spinodal decomposition is the main driving force for morphology formation: 1) The formation of polymer membranes, which are ubiquitous in filtering applications, and 2) the formation of blood vessels in early embryos.
