Vesuvius

The Department of Geosciences, in the College of Science and Mathematics, and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, co-sponsored a field course on the archaeology and geology of southern Italy, during May, 1998.

The trip included Rome, the Naples area (Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum), Paestum, Palermo, Selinunte, Agrigento, Aci Costello near Catania, Mount Etna, and the Aeolian islands of Vulcano and Stromboli.
