SATURDAY, SEPT. 21: FARGO TO CARLTON, MINNESOTA

  • Meet at Stevens Hall parking lot at 6:00 a.m. to load bus. Bus departs at 6:30 a.m.

  • STOP: Sediments of Glacial Lake Agassiz.

  • STOP: Animikie Group sediments at Jay Cooke State Park.

  • STOP: Jay Cooke State Park, Carlton, Minn. Group Camping.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 22: CARLTON TO NEAR GRAND MARAIS, MN, ALONG U.S. 61
  • STOP: Duluth Complex at Duluth (several stops along Skyline Parkway).

  • STOP: North Shore Volcanic Group, Lester River, Duluth, Minn.

  • STOP: North Shore Volcanic Group, Gooseberry Falls St. Park.

  • STOP: Beaver Bay Complex, Silver Bay, Minnesota.

  • STOP: North Shore Volcanic Group, Tettegouche St. Park.

  • STOP: Cascade River State Park. Group camping.

MONDAY, SEPT. 23: GEOLOGY OF THE GUNFLINT TRAIL

  • STOPS: Multiple stops along Gunflint Trail.

  • STOP: Cascade River State Park. Group camping.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 24: LUTSEN, MN TO NIPIGON, ONTARIO
  • STOP: Interflow sandstone of the North Shore Volcanic Group.

  • STOP: Rove Fm., Logan group, at Mount Josephine roadcut of US 61.

  • CANADIAN CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION.

  • STOP: Sudbury Impact Materials, Thunder Bay area.

  • STOP: Amethyst Mine.

  • STOP: Rove Fm on Sibley Peninsula east of Thunder Bay.

  • STOP: Pass Lake Fm at Pass Lake, Ontario.

  • STOP: Stillwater Tent and Trailer Park, near Nipigon.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 25: NIPIGON, ONTARIO TO TOFTE, MN
  • STOP: Sibley group and Logan sills east of Nipigon, Ontario.

  • STOP: Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park. Logan sill, etc.

  • U.S. CUSTOMS AND IMMIGRATION.

  • STOP: Temperance River State Park and Campground, Tofte, Minn. Showers available.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 26: TOFTE, MN TO ELY, MN
  • STOP: Iron Formation at Soudan Underground Mine State Park, Soudan, Minnesota. Underground tour.

  • STOP: Lake Vermilion Fm metasediments, Tower, Minn.

  • STOP: Bear Head Lake State Park and Campground, near Ely, Minn. Showers available.


FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 27: ELY, MN TO FARGO
  • STOP: Base and precious metals in the Duluth Complex.

  • STOP: Precambrian metamorphic rocks of NE Minnesota

  • Arrive back in Fargo at 10 P.M. (?)
