Academic Standing Guidelines
History
Following is a graphic illustration of guidelines approved by the University Academic Standards Committee on February 22, 1996. University Senate approved the minimum GPA for student classifications on February 13, 1995, to go into effect for all students as of the fall 1996 semester.

² Probation/Continued Probation: Continuance may be issued to a maximum of 3 consecutive terms. (1 probation + 2 continued probations = 3). Probation/Continued Probation does not appear on the academic record. (Continuance of continued probation: 1 semester earned prob + 1 semester earned continued probation + 1 semester continued probation + final attempt)
³ Suspension Appeal: If suspended, a student may appeal. Suspension appeals are noted on the official academic record after the specific term as a continuance approved by Academic Standards with the date of approval.
NOTE: An automatic Adviser Hold is to be put on the records of all students who are placed on probation, continued probation, or suspension. (A Registrar’s Hold is applied to students appealing.) A student is required to complete the appealed term with a term and cum GPA at or above the minimum required for the student’s classification.
