Community of Science (COS) is a web-based service that provides assistance to NDSU employees and students seeking grant opportunities and / or faculty expertise. COS is not just for the "sciences", but for ALL disciplines. It is also not just for "researchers", but for all types of scholarly activities.
COS is made available to NDSU by the North Dakota State Board of Higher Education, which funds the subscription for all 11 colleges and universities in the North Dakota University System.
COS is available at any NDSU desktop. It is also available to members off-campus by use of a username and password (which must be set up from an NDSU desktop initially).

Funding Alerts and Other Important Information For NDSU Faculty:
All NDSU faculty are strongly encouraged to create and maintain their own COS Expertise Profile. NDSU faculty who are not registered in COS should go to www.cos.com and click on "Register FREE" in the left menu bar. Once registered, you are assigned a username and password and will have access to your personal "COS Workbench", which will help you maintain your profile and use other COS services.
From your COS Workbench, you are able to manage such tasks as the following:
~ Quickly identify both government and private grant programs specific to your discipline or interest area.
~ Gather specific information about grants such as deadlines, eligibility, funding amounts, contact information, and direct access to funders' websites.
~ Create customized grant searches that will continually search and email you grant announcements weekly, called Funding Alerts (up to 40 saved searches at one time).
~ Create one-time grant searches and save the results for later reference.
~ Track specific grant programs you identify (called Funding Records) and receive email alerts whenever there are new developments about those programs - (will track up to 200 Funding Records for you).
These email alerts are an especially good way to receive up-to-date grant information, since once you initially set up the criteria for your grants searches, COS will then do the work for you! It doesn't require you to actively set up new searches or surf the internet for grant information on an continuous basis, therefore saving you valuable time.
