North Dakota Centers of Excellence
The North Dakota Centers of Excellence (NDCOE) program was proposed by Governor John Hoeven and passed by the North Dakota Legislature in 2005. North Dakota's Centers of Excellence are hubs of research and development partnering with private companies to commercialize new products and services. The program is overseen by the Centers of Excellence Commission which is comprised of members from the State Board of Higher Education and the Economic Development Foundation.
The NDCOE program is built on the concept of partnering the research capacities found in ND public colleges and universities with private-sector companies to generate jobs and new business opportunities. Invest in the infrastructure and research capacity at our state's colleges and universities and then unleash our world-class students and scientists to find ways to commercialize new ideas into products, skills and services that can create and attract new businesses and career-path jobs.
"Projects are funded and dollars spent only when the required match is available and the project is ready to move forward," said Anderson. "To date, the Centers have obtained $157 million of matching and leveraged funds, an amount that results in almost $5 raised for every state $1 leveraged."
