NDSU recently renewed a three-year subscription to COS, or rather, COS Pivot, a new improved product.
COS had been used by NDSU faculty, staff, and students for almost a decade to conduct customized grant searches and receive email alerts about upcoming grants in their fields. COS also hosted a database of faculty profiles, called COS Expertise, where one could search for experts in particular fields or from specific institutions. In 2008, COS (now Refworks COS) linked with Scholar Universe, which has grown to 2 million expertise profiles and brings research and scholarship to one easily searchable database. Now, all those same applications are new and improved and accessible under a new name - Pivot.
From any on-campus computer, a user can access Pivot at http://pivot.cos.com. Because NDSU's IP addresses will be recognized by Pivot, one can start searching for funding or faculty profiles right away.
Username and password access is necessary when a user is off-campus, or when a user needs to save a funding record or funding search. Users can use their old cos.com usernames and passwords to access Pivot. If you have a COS username and password already, there is no need to create a new one. (Email Kay below if you're not sure, so that you don't create a duplicate account.)
If you're sure you do not yet have a username and password, you can create one. Creating a Pivot account is easy—go to http://pivot.cos.com and click the “Sign up” option in the upper right of the screen. Faculty, staff, and students can create a free Pivot account by indicating your affiliation with NDSU.
Training is available online at your own desktop. A Pivot YouTube channel can be accessed at http://youtube.com/proquestpivot. Also, you can find both live and recorded webinars via the Pivot training schedule at www.refworks-cos.com/training. Support guides and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's) are available at http://pivot.cos.com/support.
