Faculty Travel Awards
The RCATT Faculty Travel Awards program has been suspended indefinitely. The RCATT Office regrets this decision. As soon as it is feasible, plans are to reinstate the Faculty Travel Awards program. (rev. 2/28/2012).
To apply for funding, please click on the application form below after reading the following guidelines. The completed application form with attachments must be received by the Office of Research, Creative Activities and Technology Transfer, Research 1 bldg., BEFORE the travel takes place.
Matching funds are provided for faculty to travel for research-related purposes. This support is intended to be an investment in a faculty member's ability to establish and continue in a long-term research program at NDSU. The program attempts to provide financial assistance for as many research-related requests as possible. However, because of limited funds, not all meritorious requests can be funded; or they may be funded at less than the level requested (see priorities indicated with the categories below). Applications must be submitted before the travel takes place. Applications are accepted at any time; however, an individual may receive only one award per fiscal year per category below.
Who is eligible to apply?
NDSU employees holding faculty rank are eligible to apply. For purposes of this program, faculty rank includes tenured, tenure-track, special appointment faculty, or special long-term appointment as it pertains to Experiment Station and Extension employees. Visiting faculty are not eligible to apply.
Travel Awards are also available to “non-faculty” research scientists and other staff who are eligible to be PI’s on grants. Such individuals should apply under this program and include the necessary justification with their application.
Priority is given in the following order: 1. Assistant professors or new faculty attempting to establish a new research program, 2. Individuals who regularly submit grant proposals, 3. Individuals who continue to publish their research.
Applications for travel funding must be submitted with the application form designated for Faculty Travel Awards (click on the link below). The following pieces of information must be attached to the form:
- travel dates and destination,
- names of specific people who will be visited, when applicable, and their titles,
- any evidence or documentation to lend credibility or support to your request
- an abstract or summary of the planned research project
- for "non-faculty" applicants, any information in the form of an email, letter or printed web site which provides justification or proof that you will be serving as PI on a grant proposal.
Review takes approximately one to two weeks from the date the application is submitted. Applicants will be notified by letter as soon as a decision is made following review of the application. Award letters include instructions for collection of payment upon return from the travel.
