Gender-Neutral Restrooms
In 2011 the Department of Residence Life implemented a Diversity Committee initiative to transition 15 bathrooms across multiple residence halls to become Gender Neutral Bathrooms. Marked with the sign you see below these bathrooms provide a safe place for individuals of all genders to utilize. Instead of a “Unisex” sign, the language “Gender Neutral” was specifically chosen to welcome all genders and spark educational conversations. In doing so, we hope to accommodate our valued minority population while additionally educating our majority. Thirteen of these bathrooms are individual bathrooms with lockable doors. Two of these bathrooms have two stalls and can be locked for the use of a single individual.

“Because gender-diverse students are often subject to harassment and violence when using male- or female-specific campus restrooms, a rapidly growing number of colleges and universities are creating gender-neutral bathrooms, either through renovations or by simply changing the signs on single-stall male/female restrooms.”
