WELCOME:
Department of Residence Life
North Dakota State University
Welcome home!
Our mission is to support students by providing a vibrant, healthy place to live and learn.
HISTORY:
North Dakota State University is a land-grant university which strives to provide students with excellent opportunities to achieve both academic and personal success.
This Faculty In Residence (FIR) program begins during the 2008-2009 academic year and is supported by the Department of Residence Life.
Through this program, faculty and students will have valuable opportunities to interact both in and outside the classroom.
PHILOSOPHY:
Providing students with a vibrant, healthy place to live and learn is the foundation of the Faculty In Residence Education (FIRE) initiative at North Dakota State University.
One component of FIRE is the Faculty In Residence (FIR) program.
In this program, a faculty member lives with the students in the residence hall and interacts with them both formally and informally.
This live-in option for faculty creates valuable opportunities for students and faculty to interact with each other outside of the classroom where learning can occur.
Both students and faculty benefit from the interactions in relation to the learning process: faculty gain insight into the dynamic of student life;
and, students gain a greater understanding of the faculty's role in education through conversation and exchange of ideas.
Core values of the university include scholarship, teaching, and learning.
Through scholarship, we engage in, and acknowledge, the pursuit of scholarship of all forms including discovery, teaching, integration, and application.
At NDSU, we provide a superior teaching and learning environment within and outside of the traditional classroom.
Goals for the program include exchange of ideas, intellectual development, career experience, personal connections and shared experiences.
Faculty will participate in various programs, act as mentors and role models, assist students with accomplishing various learning outcomes,
and become a cherished part of the community.
