Move-In Information

By now, if you are living in a residence hall for the 2009-2010 school year, you should have received a letter with your room assignment information, or a letter explaining our use of overflow spaces. If you have any questions, please contact the Department of Residence Life at 701.231.7557 or ndsu.residence.life@ndsu.edu.

We are busy preparing for your arrival. Last minute details are being arranged so your move-in experience goes well. Here is some helpful information so you can start planning for the big move.

Check In:

Our staff will be ready for your arrival during the hours listed below. On Monday, we will have staff on call. After Monday, you can check in any evening during regular office hours (6-9 p.m.). If you are going to arrive more than a week late, please notify us so we do not cancel your room assignment.

Saturday, August 22 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday, August 23 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

You may go directly to your residence hall to check in. Staff will welcome you and assist with the check-in process. You can expect a lot of traffic during this busy time. We ask for patience and courtesy because many others will be attempting to do the same thing you are doing. If you find a close spot near the building to unload, please unload everything on the curb before taking anything to your room. Once your vehicle is unloaded, move it to one of the parking lots. By doing this, others will have an opportunity to unload close to the building as well.

At check in, you will receive the following items:

  • Room Condition Form - You will inspect your room and report any existing damages before agreeing to the overall condition.
  • Parking Permit - If you have pre-ordered a parking permit, we will have it ready for you.
  • Calendar Handbook - This provides you with policies, procedures, and other helpful information. It is also a daily planner.
  • Room Key

Driving Directions:

Please check our website prior to your departure for the most up-to-date information. Due to extensive road construction and multiple special events in town, the "regular" routes to campus may need to be adjusted. Our website will give detailed information in the days leading up to opening day. Click here for the latest driving directions.

A few things to remember:

  • All first year students are required to live on campus.
  • All students who check in are making a commitment to live on campus for the full academic year. After moving in, you may not cancel your contract without risking a financial penalty unless you have received approval. Typical approval would occur for situations such as leaving NDSU, graduating, or participating in an internship.
  • You must be an admitted NDSU student prior to moving in.
