Aquatic Center
ABSTRACT: This student body vote would allow all students the opportunity to decide whether or not they believe NDSU should create a student fee to build an aquatic center on our campus.
GENERAL: A common theme during prospective student tours is a question regarding where the pool is on campus, however it has been several years since there has been an aquatic center for students to utilize at NDSU. When there was an opportunity to swim on campus it was utilized heavily by students, the athletic department and even some classes. Currently the wellness center is prepared for construction of a third phase which would be the aquatic center. This vote would give students the detailed information they would need to allow them to make an educated decision on whether or not we need an aquatic center on campus. If the vote passes, we will work to make sure students remain informed throughout the entire process.
PROCESS: During the summer months, Student Government will work with appropriate offices to decide the size and scope of this project. After information has been gathered from all areas of campus, Student Government will educate students about the proposed addition to the Wellness Center and provide further details on the upcoming student vote. The vote will take place either in the early fall or during the regular student body elections in April. If voting results are in favor of the aquatic center fee, Student Government will facilitate continued discussions on the student fee and building designs.
