Bison 101
ABSTRACT: Monthly sessions would be hosted by Student Government and partner organizations to teach the songs/cheers, traditions, history and ways to get involved at NDSU.
GENERAL: The premise for this new initiative stemmed from the fact that too many students are coming through our university without feeling any real sense of connection. Essentially, when they first come to NDSU they are not being socialized in a way that will engage them in what’s happening on campus. We need a way to connect with freshmen, transfer students and international students when they first arrive to campus so that they will be excited about becoming a Bison. The idea arose to create and entirely student-run program that is aimed at fostering bison pride in our students. It should be clear that there is no intention of offering academic credit for this program.
PROCESS: The “curriculum” for this program would be developed over the summer by a team of Student Government members. Collaboration with other entities and organizations from around campus and the community will be vital for the success of these rallies. Student organizations and departments from all around campus will be approached to assist with the substance of the events. Each month’s session will be centered on a different aspect of campus life; however common themes would be implemented throughout. It will be the responsibility of Student Government to promote these sessions and encourage students to attend, however partnerships with dining services and the bookstore would be highly appreciated to create incentives for student participation.
