College Evaluations
ABSTRACT: These online surveys, tailored for each academic college, would give all NDSU students the opportunity to provide direct feedback on the major issues pertaining to their academic experience.
GENERAL: Our students currently have the opportunity to evaluate their professors at either the middle or end of each semester. However, the faculty and course quality are only one part of the overall academic experience. Issues such as advising, academic facilities, course/program fees, and course/program offerings are all relevant to the quality of education that our students receive. Having students give feedback on these broader issues will be beneficial to university administration, college deans/department heads, student leaders, and the students themselves. The goal would be for these surveys to simply point out areas that are being done well within each college and areas that could use additional focus.
PROCESS: Preparation for these evaluations would be an effort led by Student Government with input and assistance from the academic deans. The goal would be to have from 3-5 general questions that are filled out by every student that takes the survey. These questions would be determined by a group made up of student government members and academic deans/designees. There would also be 3-5 questions tailored for the students from each college. These questions would be selected by a group made up of student government members, the respective dean/designee, and student leaders from the respective college. Students would need to provide their campus login information in order to be brought to the appropriate survey. Determining which questions to use would be an effort over the summer and into the early part of the fall semester. Student Government would be responsible for the logistical creation of the surveys, the promotion to students, and the incentives for taking the survey.
