Environmental Sustainability
ABSTRACT: By tackling many sustainability efforts beyond just traditional recycling we believe we can make an incredible impact on the sustainability of this university.
GENERAL: For many years NDSU has struggled to create a solid recycling program which is why we would like to expand our efforts beyond traditional recycling. One of the greatest assets for improving sustainability would be an environmental task force. This task force will be created with students, staff and faculty to cultivate ideas and evaluate the current sustainability efforts we have. The group will be used to help educate the university about our current recycling options as well as help develop the programs such as compost recycling at the dining centers and expanding move in/move out recycling in residence life.
PROCESS: Student Government will begin developing the task force during the summer months and create suggestions for a mission and set of goals for the upcoming year to present to the task force in the fall. When the task force meets for the first time in the fall we will present information we have gathered over the summer. During the summer months Student Government will also be working with dining service to find out what the process will need to be to get compost recycling at each of the dining centers. We will also be working with residence life to find ways in which we can expand the recycling for the move in days in the fall.
