Graduate Health Insurance
ABSTRACT: As a top-tier research institution, NDSU must be supporting our graduate assistants that work hard on our research endeavors by subsidizing their healthcare coverage.
GENERAL: NDSU currently provides 0% healthcare subsidies to the majority graduate assistants on campus. Significant work has been done at the state-level to improve the healthcare plan that North Dakota students can buy into; however we have yet to make strides in finding funding for the subsidies. It’s important that we attract the highest quality talent to NDSU that we can, and the current situation is causing graduate students to choose other institutions above ours. This is by far the number one need of our graduate students and it is important that we as a Student Government are supporting that sector of campus as well.
PROCESS: We completely understand that budgets are impossibly tight across campus at this time and know this is not a service that would be easy to start providing. However, we will work to ensure that this remains/becomes a priority for University administration. Student Government is prepared to do research as to the actual costs and needs of providing this service, as well as assist in developing funding options.
