Student Government

NDSU State Funding

ABSTRACT:   The 2013 legislative session will provide the state legislature the chance to equitably invest in North Dakota State University, and students must be the leading charge in helping them see this opportunity.

GENERAL:      The per-student funding disparity within the current university system has led to a financial situation that is causing serious constraints on the opportunities that are being provided to NDSU students. Cuts in academic and student services are affecting the quality of education that students receive when they come to our University. It’s time that we as students stand up to support our administration in their efforts to operate this institution as efficiently and productively as possible. We need to show people across the state of North Dakota that an investment in this University is an investment in the future of our state.

PROCESS:      Student Government’s primary role for the next legislative session will be to engage people all across the state to become educated on the funding issues and get involved in the process of conversing with state legislators. We will approach the issue with as many creative ideas as our organization is able to come up with, however we will only be successful if people from all over campus step up and join our efforts. Every student, staff member, faculty member, and alumnus has the opportunity to make an impact on this process. We will provide resources and education; however we will be calling upon them to reach out to legislators and to recruit their connections from across the state to join us. We must make our message clear and unified that our University has the potential to change the future of North Dakota if only the state provides us the support that we need.
