STEM Building
ABSTRACT: By building a new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math building on campus the University will be able to open more classrooms and enhance the academics of NDSU into the future of the university.
GENERAL: Academic classroom space throughout the campus has become a problem as the enrollment of our university continues to grow. To counteract the trend of large class capacities and strained department space, the University will pursue the funding of a $20 to $40 million STEM building. The addition of this building on the NDSU campus would not only benefit the STEM classes but would help relieve some of the increasingly dense classroom facilities by moving the STEM classes to the new facility. With an ever increasing need for trained workers in the oil fields of the western part of North Dakota this new academic building would help North Dakota bolster its technically trained workforce and prepare for the future.
PROCESS: Next year it will be crucial for all entities in the university to join together to support this capital project at the 2013 legislative session. As we move into the school year, Student Government will work with the President, Provost and Dean of Engineering and Architecture to find out exactly what will be needed in this new space. After consulting with the university officials we plan to gather input from students across campus as well as other departments and colleges. If we move into the session supporting one project as a whole, we believe we can build state level support for a building that will directly affect the future of North Dakota.
