Anthropology Major and Minor

MAJOR: 37 credits are required for the Anthropology major. The course requirements are:

Two intro cores:

  • SOC 110 Introduction to Sociology
  • ANTH 111 Introduction to Anthropology

Any two of the following 200-level courses:

  • ANTH 204 Archaeology and Prehistory
  • ANTH 205 Human Origins
  • ANTH 206 Peoples of the World

One of the following Theory courses:

  • ANTH 470 Analysis & Interpretation in Archaeology
  • ANTH 480 Development of Anthropological Theory

One of the following Methods courses:

  • ANTH 471 Archaeological Research Methods
  • ANTH 481 Qualitative Methods in Cultural Anthropology

Plus:

  • 18 credits (6 courses) of ANTH courses at the 300-400 level
  • ANTH 489 Senior Capstone (1 credit hour, must be taken the Fall prior to graduation)

A B.A. in Anthropology requires foreign language proficiency at the two-year level. A B.S. in Anthropology requires completion of the requirements for a minor in another discipline. The degree also includes 40 general education credits and 12 credits of AHSS College requirements

MINOR: 18 credit hours are required for the minor. The minor in anthropology requires:

  • SOC 110 Introduction to Sociology
  • ANTH 111 Introduction to Anthropology

Plus any two of the following:

  • ANTH 204 Archaeology and Prehistory
  • ANTH 205 Human Origins
  • ANTH 206 Peoples of the World

Plus:

  • 6 credits (2 courses) of ANTH courses at the 300-400 level
