Project Title: Classical Music Internet Service
Award number: 0318
Project Leader: Mark England
Report Period: Final
Project Description:
- The NDSU Library was awarded $1,000 to pilot a classical music Internet service at NDSU. This service allowed students, faculty and staff at NDSU listen to and download tracks from nearly 30,000 classical music recordings. A subscription to Classical Music Library was purchased for $895. The subscription started in January 2004 and lasted through December 2004. The subscription allowed up to three students to listen to music at one time.
- The NDSU Library requested this funding because NDSU very limited holdings of classical music recordings to support music programs.
Progress toward Milestones:
- Subscription was purchased in January 2004 and expired in January 2005.
Comments:
- Between January 2004 to January 2005, NDSU students and faculty logged into the Classical Music Library service 1143 times. During the same period, students and faculty played 3711 recordings. During the entire year, only 72 people were denied access to the Classical Music Library because the three license slots were already in use. However, use of the service declined over the year, indicating that the service was not meeting the needs of students. Since the use of the service was not as high as was expected. The subscription was cancelled in January 2005.
