Bruce Steele Introduction by The Director

Bruce Steele

Veterans Upward Bound programs fill a special need in American higher education. In 1972, Veterans Upward Bound was created to provide a foundation of academic skills to military veterans that are preparing for post-secondary education. Today's Veterans Upward Bound projects continue their leadership in the traditional areas of service, while also embracing new technological teaching tools.

Another feature of Veterans Upward Bound is an emphasis on outreach, taking the services to veterans that live in rural, remote areas of the Dakotas. Outreach also means that Veterans Upward Bound is deeply involved in veteran and civic communities.

We live in challenging and exciting times. Some veterans start a college education soon after leaving the military, while others pursue their education goals after raising a family or building a career. NDSU Veterans Upward Bound is committed to serving all veterans through education and supportive services. We are about helping veterans obtain a post-secondary education, be more competitive in their career field, and spark the fire of life-long learning.
