The Academic Advising Process at NDSU

Each student is assigned an advisor from the college or department in which the student is majoring. If a major has not been declared, the student will be assigned an advisor in the College of University Studies. Advisors serve as a primary resource for students, connecting them with the wide variety of academic opportunities and services available to them.

An advisor assists a student in selecting courses to ensure a well-balanced education and helps interpret university and college policies and requirements. However, students are ultimately responsible for their academic decisions including selecting courses, meeting course requisites, corequisites/prerequisites, and adhering to policies, procedures, and deadlines.

The advising experience begins during a student's orientation event and continues through graduation. The academic advising process is an individualized academic experience for each student developed through a mentoring relationship.
