2014 Agriculture and Extension Faculty and Staff Awards

This awards program recognizes exceptional performance by faculty and staff members in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station; and the NDSU Extension Service.

Prior award recipients are eligible to be nominated for an award in the same category if they have not received that award in the past five years.

Nominations ceased at 12 noon, Monday, Nov. 3.

Awards program

All nominees and award winners will be recognized at a ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 11, in the Plains Room of the NDSU Memorial Union.

Award categories

Following is a list of categories and awards in each category.

Vice President for Agricultural Affairs Staff Awards


Three awards have been established by the Office of the Vice President for Agricultural Affairs to recognize exceptional performance by staff members. The 2014 award recipients will receive a $1,000 honorarium.

  • Charles and Linda Moses Staff Award
    This annual award recognizes significant contributions to the mission of NDSU Agriculture and/or Extension. The purpose is to encourage and reward excellence in job performance by professional staff. Selection will be based on significant contributions by the nominee to the mission of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station; or NDSU Extension Service.  The nominee must have at least three years of continuous service in a staff position with an appointment in the college, NDAES or Extension Service. On- and off-campus staff members are eligible. Nominations for the Charles and Linda Moses Staff Award will be accepted from any employee but are limited to one nominee per department or unit (county office, district office or Research Extension Center).   • Rick and Jody Burgum Staff Award
    This annual award recognizes significant contributions to the mission of NDSU Agriculture and/or Extension. The purpose is to encourage and reward excellence in job performance by support staff in technical and paraprofessional; crafts/trades; or services. Selection will be based on significant contributions by the nominee to the mission of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station; or NDSU Extension Service. The nominee must have at least three years of continuous service in a staff position with an appointment in the college, NDAES or Extension Service. On- and off-campus staff members are eligible. Nominations for the Rick and Jody Burgum Staff Award will be accepted from any employee but are limited to one nominee per department or unit (county office, district office or Research Extension Center).   • Donald and Jo Anderson Staff Award
    This annual award recognizes significant contributions to the mission of NDSU Agriculture and/or Extension. The purpose is to encourage and reward excellence in job performance by clerical staff. Selection will be based on significant contributions by the nominee to the mission of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station; or NDSU Extension Service. The nominee must have at least three years of continuous service in a staff position with an appointment in the college, NDAES or Extension Service. On- and off-campus staff members are eligible. Nominations for the Donald and Jo Anderson Staff Award will be accepted from any employee but are limited to one nominee per department or unit (county office, district office or Research Extension Center). College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources Excellence in Teaching Awards


Three awards have been established by the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources to recognize exceptional performance in teaching and advising. The 2014 award recipients will receive a $1,000 honorarium.

  • Earl and Dorothy Foster Excellence in Teaching Award
    This annual award recognizes outstanding teaching faculty in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. The purpose of the award is to encourage and reward excellence in teaching at all levels and among all disciplines. Individuals with 10 or fewer years of service are eligible for nomination. Nominees must hold a teaching appointment in the CAFSNR and be in the 2000 job band. (To nominate someone with more than 10 years of service, see the H.   • H. Roald and Janet Lund Excellence in Teaching Award
    This annual award recognizes outstanding teaching faculty in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources. The purpose of the award is to encourage and reward excellence in teaching at all levels and among all disciplines. Individuals with more than 10 years of service are eligible for nomination. Nominees must hold a teaching appointment in the CAFSNR and be in the 2000 job band.   • William J. and Angelyn A. Austin Excellence in Advising Award
    This annual award recognizes the contributions of faculty and staff who have demonstrated excellence in advising undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources and/or its student organizations.
North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station Excellence in Research Awards


Two awards have been established by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station to recognize exceptional performance by faculty or staff. The 2014 award recipients will receive a $1,000 honorarium.

  • Larson/Yaggie Excellence in Research Award
    This annual award recognizes outstanding faculty and Research Extension Center principal investigators who have achieved major accomplishments in research. Nominees must have made a significant research contribution in addressing an applied problem or to the basic knowledge of the area investigated. Individuals with 10 or fewer years of service are eligible for nomination. Nominees must hold a research appointment in the NDAES and be in the 2000 job band. (To nominate someone with more than 10 years of service, see the Eugene R. Dahl Excellence in Research Award category. To nominate other research staff, see the Charles and Linda Moses Staff Award category.) Job Band 2000

  • Eugene R. Dahl Excellence in Research Award
    This annual award recognizes outstanding faculty and Research Extension Center principal investigators who have achieved significant accomplishments in research. Nominees must have a distinguished research program in basic or applied sciences that has gained significant recognition in the state, region, nation and/or internationally. Individuals with more than 10 years of service are eligible for nomination. Nominees must hold a research appointment in the NDAES and be in the 2000 job band. (To nominate someone with 10 or fewer years of service, see the Larson/Yaggie Excellence in Research Award category. NDSU Extension Service Excellence in Extension Awards


Two awards have been established by the NDSU Extension Service to recognize exceptional performance by professional educators. The recipient of the 2014 Johnsrud Award will receive a $1,000 professional development stipend that will be matched by Extension Administration. The recipient of the 2014 AGSCO Award will receive a $1,000 honorarium.

  • Myron and Muriel Johnsrud Excellence in Extension/Outreach Award
    This annual award is to encourage and reward exceptional engagement in programming and innovative Extension/outreach practices. The recipient will receive a $1,000 professional development stipend that will be matched by Extension administration. The stipend is to be used within 24 months for professional development. All full-time county, area and state educators who have an appointment with the NDSU Extension Service and a total of 10 or fewer years of professional experience are eligible for nomination. Professional experience includes work experience in a professional position prior to being hired by the NDSU Extension Service and as an NDSU Extension Service employee.   • AGSCO Excellence in Extension Award
    This annual award is to encourage and reward significant accomplishments and excellence in Extension work. All full-time county, area and state educators who have an appointment with the NDSU Extension Service and a total of 11 or more years of professional experience are eligible for nomination. Professional experience includes work experience in a professional position prior to being hired by the NDSU Extension Service and as an NDSU Extension Service employee.
