H1N1 Influenza: Questions & Answers

If you are a NDSU student or parent and have questions about H1N1 influenza or University protocol not addressed here, please call the Student Health Service at 701-231-7331.

How is NDSU preparing for H1N1 influenza?

· NDSU has a Crisis Management Response Team in place to review what is happening nationally and internationally and to discuss contingency plans.

· NDSU is working collaboratively with local public health officials, health care systems and institutions of higher education (MSUM, Concordia) to address issues from a community perspective.

· NDSU Student Health Service is prepared to test and treat students who meet the criteria for H1N1 Influenza.

What can I do to stay healthy?

Take everyday actions to stay healthy.

· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough and sneeze. Throw tissue in the trash after you use it.

· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective

· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.

· Stay home if you get sick. CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact from others to keep from infecting them.

Where can students go for medical attention?

Any NDSU student who may be experiencing flu-like symptoms should call the Student Health Service at 231-7331 and speak with a nurse. If further evaluation seems appropriate, the nurse will counsel the student to make an appointment here on campus or with their private healthcare provider.
