Who: Courtney Simons, Major: Ph.D.  in Cereal Science, Hometown: Kingston, Jamaica.

What is NDSU’s biggest strength?

“I think this would be its warm, welcoming environment for students of many different cultural backgrounds. How people make you feel is a big factor in your comfort level.”

What is your favorite part about NDSU?

“I enjoy the opportunity I have to think independently and creatively; developing my own thoughts without feeling any pressure to fit in a mold or merely reflecting other people’s ideas.”

Why is NDSU a good fit for you as a graduate student?

“My life opportunities prior to NDSU seem to have pointed in the direction of me becoming a cereal scientist, although I did not recognize this when I was thinking about applying. NDSU is one of only two universities in the United States with a cereal science graduate program. The professors in my department are nationally and internationally recognized for their contributions in this field, and provide the best training and guidance possible in cereal science research and innovation.”
