Who are the Tutors?

Smarthinking Tutors are not affiliated with NDSU. 90% of Smarthinking tutors hold master’s degrees or PhDs in their fields. Research shows that tutor training makes a difference, so all Smarthinking tutors go through an intensive training and certification program, specific to virtual classrooms and one-on-one instruction.

How Often Can I Visit?

Smarthinking is a supplemental service which students may elect to use if a tutor is unavaiable through ACE. Each NDSU student is awarded five free hours of online tutoring each semester. Requests for additional access will be awarded based on individual need (e.g. schedule conflicts, living out of town, etc.). Please submit any requests for additional hours by emailing

Student Focused. Land Grant. Research University.
