David Buchanan

David Buchanan is Professor Emeritus of Animal Science at both Oklahoma State University and North Dakota State University and Associate Dean Emeritus of the College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources at NDSU. He also served as the Head of the NDSU Department of Animal Sciences. Dr. Buchanan was born in Fargo and graduated from NDSU in 1975. After that, he completed his M.S. and PhD in Animal Breeding and Genetics at the University of Nebraska. From 1980 to 2007, he was on the faculty of Oklahoma State University where he, when he finished, was the Graduates of Distinction Professor of Animal Science. He has also been Chair of the OSU Faculty Council and is a Past-President of the American Society of Animal Science. He has won Teaching Awards from the American Society of Animal Science (for which he was also named as a Fellow), the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture and the USDA. He was also named as the NDSU Blue Key Distinguished Educator.
