Department of Plant Sciences employees honored

Three Department of Plant Sciences employees received awards during the 2021 North Dakota State University Agriculture and Extension Faculty and Staff Awards program on December 9. Research specialist Collin Auwater, professor Marisol Berti and assistant professor of practice Anuradha Vegi were honored. 

Auwater is the research specialist for the high value crop production project and received the Charles and Linda Moses Staff Award. Berti leads the forages, cover crops and bioenergy crops project and received the Eugene R. Dahl Excellence in Research Award. Vegi teaches food science courses and is the food science undergraduate coordinator. She received the Earl and Dorothy Foster Excellence in Teaching Award

Six other employees from the Department of Plant Sciences were nominated for awards, including senior accounting specialist Krista Caldwell for the Rick and Jody Burgum Staff Award, associate professor Michael Christoffers for the William J. and Angelyn Austin Excellence in Advising Award, administrative secretary Karen Jevning for the Donald and Jo Anderson Staff Award, professor Burton Johnson for the H. Roald and Janet Lund Excellence in Teaching Award, associate professor and sugarbeet agronomist Thomas Peters for the Excellence in Extension Early Career Award, and assistant professor Jiajia Rao for the Larson/Yaggie Excellence in Research Award. A total of fifty faculty and staff in the NDSU College of Agriculture, Food Systems and Natural Resources (CAFSNR), the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Stations (NDAES), and NDSU Extension were nominated for excellence in research, teaching, Extension and support staff work. Greg Lardy, NDSU vice president for agricultural affairs led the virtual program.
