It’s an honor to continue to serve as Dean of the College of Business at North Dakota State University. As a business school situated in a land-grant university with a reputation as a Top 100 public research university, we enjoy a unique position in business education and pursue excellence in everything we do.
The College of Business at NDSU is an Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accredited business school, which places us among the upper echelon of business schools worldwide. We’re educating tomorrow’s leaders, and we are improving the economies of North Dakota, Minnesota, and the larger communities we serve.
We are a mission-driven college, and we organize our activities around three key pillars:
- Outstanding educational experiences: Our curricula are rigorous and demanding, and the results we’re proud to report include Top 20 first-time CPA pass rates for our Master of Accountancy students and above average job placements from all of our undergraduate majors. Looking ahead, we have made our undergraduate business experience more flexible by allowing for earlier admission to our college. At the graduate level, our MBA program has been revamped to accelerate completion times and give students more options in the courses they want to take.
- Research for the advancement of knowledge: 91 percent of our classes are taught by research-active faculty members. That means students are engaging with professors who are still plugged in to debates and current literature related to business education. Their knowledge and expertise spills over into the business world through citations and the use of their research in practice. And, it makes for a more dynamic educational experience for our students, as strong scholars engage with them daily.
- Collaborations to benefit business and the greater community: The Fargo-Moorhead area provides an outstanding backdrop for our downtown location in Richard H. Barry Hall. We have brought in dozens of entrepreneurs and business executives to guest lecture and visit with our students. Our mentorship program, Business Connections, pairs business leaders with students in meaningful one-on-one semester-long relationships; in just 3 years, the program has grown to support 70 student-mentor relationships. And, our space is always available and has supported many community groups and business meetings. In sum, we are “walking the walk and talking the talk” when it comes to being a partner with community and business.
As a College of Business, we aim to act like a good business: we think about return on investment in what we do and in the programs we offer; we try to create value for our students and the greater community we serve; we aim to streamline the experience of anyone intersecting with our college; and we seek to improve the lives of our stakeholders. We take our jobs seriously and aim to develop students into outstanding employees, entrepreneurs, and leaders in local communities and wherever they go.
It's the value we add and our day-in and day-out focus on getting better that makes a compelling educational experience. If you’re already in business, contact us and learn about how we can work together. If you’re a prospective student, join us. We’re committed to your success.
