Somnath Banerjee, assistant professor of marketing, was recently featured in a article, titled “2017’s Best 4th of July Sales and Deals” by senior writer Richie Bernardo.

Banerjee, who was one of eight experts to be interviewed for the story posted June 15, said a variety of seasonal products such as summer and spring apparel, previous model year automobiles, fireworks and outdoor products are likely to be on sale.

He suggested searching websites such as,, to find the best holiday savings and checking the price tracking website

“If retailers remain open during the 4th of July holiday, they are likely to see some additional sales and hence, profit,” Banerjee said in the story when asked whether it is right for retailers to stay open on the national holiday. “I think the key on Independence Day is independence. As long as each of the players, i.e., the consumers, retailers and employees independently choose to get involved in trade on Independence Day, it is great for our economy, and a celebration of freedom.”

He also suggested developing a budget can help consumers avoid overspending during the holiday sales period.

Banerjee, who joined the NDSU faculty in 2015, earned his bachelor’s degree at Patna University in India, Master of Business Administration from the International Management Institute-India and his doctorate at the University of Central Florida. His research interests include such areas as sales management, sales incentives, online marketing and competitive marketing strategy.
