MIS electives

MIS Students are required to take two technology electives, one programming elective, and one upper-level business elective to fulfill their graduation requirements. In addition to this list, students are encouraged to look at the Course Catalog for course listings and more detailed descriptions

Programming Elective:

A second computer language course at the intermediate or advanced level that was not the teaching language of your CSCI 227/228 (or equivalent) series. OR CSCI 125 - Beginning COBOL OR ECE 173 - Introduction to Computing (teaching language must be different from your CSCI 227/228)

Technology Elective I:

  • Any 300-400 level CSCI or MIS class may not be used to satisfy another MIS program requirement. OR
  • ECE 173 – Introduction to Computing
  • ECE 275 – Digital Systems I
  • CSCI 125 – Beginning COBOL
  • CSCI 172 – Intermediate Visual Basic
  • CSCI 222 – Discrete Mathematics
  • CSCI 277 – Introduction to UNIX
  • CSCI 345 – Topics on Personal Computers
  • CSCI 371 – Web Scripting Languages
  • CSCI 469 – Network Security
  • CSCI 473 – Foundations/Digital Enterprise
  • CSCI 488 – Human Computer Interaction
  • CSCI 489 – Social Implications of Computing (if not used as a major requirement)
  • MIS 340 – Applied Business Intelligence
  • MIS 412 – Computer Crime, Forensic, and Investigation
  • MIS 460 – Enterprise Infrastructure I
  • MIS 479 – Decision Support and Intelligent Systems
  • IME 456 – Program and Project Management

Technology Elective II:

Any 300 or 400 level CSCI or MIS course not used to satisfy another MIS major requirement

Business Elective:

Any 300-400 level ACCT, BUSN, FIN, MRKT, MGMT or MIS class (with the exceptions noted below) not used to satisfy another MIS program requirement. OR CSCI 473 - Foundations of Digital Enterprise (was CSCI 499 - ST/Foundations of the Digital Enterprise) OR ECON 324 - Money and Banking - EXCEPTIONS - The following courses can NOT be used to satisfy the Business Elective for MIS majors. MGMT 301 (was BUSN 399) - Survey of Management for Non-Business Majors MRKT 301 (was BUSN 399) - Survey of Marketing for Non-Business Majors
