Bison Fund

The Bison Fund is a student organization that is committed to developing students into capable and successful employees that are looking for a career in finance. As a member you will be exposed to our $1.4 million dollar portfolio that we manage for North Dakota State University. Throughout your time you will learn the basics of investing with tools like Excel and Bloomberg at your disposal.

Beginning members will spend 1-2 years updating financial models and monitoring earnings calls of the companies we are currently invested in. More experienced members will find themselves doing research on new companies, contacting management and building new financial models. Our organization is setup to mirror parts of what it would be like to work in a real investment shop.

In between earnings season, our meetings will be spent developing our members’ networking skills. Students will see development through resume and cover letter workshops, LinkedIn help, and guest speakers that have worked in the industry. We also help students put what they’ve learned in action through various networking trips to Minneapolis, Chicago and New York where we visit a variety of firms to show the many different routes students can take in finance as a career.

Students from all majors, undergraduate or graduate, are encouraged to join. The Bison Fund holds weekly meetings at 6pm every Tuesday and every Wednesday from 10am to noon in the Barry Hall Commodity Trading Lab.
