The library annex in Richard H. Barry hall now has on reserve three reference books on word processing and presentation software. These books are for the use of business students. In addition, we have created these software resource centers with additional tools to assist you with these two application packages. From time to time a link will become outdated or will be taken down by the host. If you experience this please notify the site managerso we can update the resource center.






Presentation Software Tutorials

The following are useful tools/tutorials for using Microsoft PowerPoint.  Included are videos and text showing and explaining various functions for the presentation software.

Video Tutorials

  1. How to create a title page and additional slides.
  2. How to use save, open, print, copy, paste, spell checker, thesaurus, header, footer and slide numbering functions.
  3. How to format the contents of slides (font selection, font size,font color, character spacing*, line spacing, indentation, margins*, hyphenation*, and text wrapping*).*these functions are similar for Word and PowerPoint. Please refer to the resources on word processing for assistance with these functions.
  4. How to change/vary the layout on slides.
  5. How to insert hyperlinks, objects (spreadsheets), images (pictures, charts, graphs) and multimedia in presentation. (Animation, audio, video, YouTube)
  6. How to create tables and diagrams (shapes, clipart).
  7. How to create an auto slide show.
  8. How to use and modify templates.
  9. How to create a slide master. (slide master view, move frames, remove frames, resize frames)


Microsoft also has useful tools for PowerPoint 2003, 2007, and 2010 on its website.


*These are tools for PowerPoint 2007.  PowerPoint 2010 is very similar. If using PowerPoint 2010, use the “File” tab on the Ribbon, rather than clicking the Microsoft Office Button.
