Welcome to the website of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at North Dakota State University
Founded in 1907, our department has a long history of pride and tradition. Our graduates have contributed to society and professional communities for over 100 years. We are a vibrant department emphasizing research and teaching. The department has an ABET-accredited B.S. program in Civil Engineering and offers M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Civil Engineering. The department also offers a M.S. program in Environmental Engineering.
In recent years, we have grown dramatically. Our undergraduate and graduate enrollments and number of faculty have increased markedly to all time high. We have set records in our grant funding and number of peer reviewed journal papers. Four of our faculties are former and current NSF CAREER awardees. Our faculties have received several college and university teaching awards. Beside their dedication to research and teaching, they have been active in providing services to the university and professional communities.
Our student organizations show excellence by major accomplishments in national competitions. The ASCE Steel Bridge Team has won 6 national championships, an outstanding achievement considering that no other school in the nation has won the championship more than once. Other student organizations such as the Materials Research Society and American Water Works Association/Water Environment Federation have also won national competitions.
Our successes would not be possible without support from alumni and friends. Some of them have served on our industrial advisory committee while others have donated their time as guest lecturers in our classrooms. Many of them have donated instruments, equipment, and funds to us. Our department has been faced with rising costs and their support is critical to maintain high quality education for our students. We appreciate their contributions to the department.
Please take time to navigate our website to learn more about our success and activities. Thank you for your interest in our department.
