Civil and Environmental Engineering student received NDSU College of Engineering Teaching Assistant award

Navaratnam Leelaruban (Leelan)

Navaratnam Leelaruban (Leelan) has been awarded NDSU College of Engineering (CoE) Graduate Student Teacher of the Year 2014. The CoE Academic Affairs Committee selected him based on his quality of teaching and instruction, and the commitment to teaching responsibilities and to foster student’s learning. Dean Gary Smith presented him the award certificate and cash incentives. Leelan is a Ph.D. Candidate and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He received a MS degree in Civil Engineering with water resources emphasis at North Dakota State University (2011), and a BS degree in Civil Engineering from University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka (2007).

He has been appointed as a Teaching Assistant for Fluid Mechanics class (CE 309) and Introduction to Environmental Engineering class (CE 370) each has the student enrolment about hundred; and assigned as a laboratory instructor for Environmental Engineering laboratory (CE 371) and Fluid Mechanics laboratory (CE 310). In addition to the above department assignment, he is helping to demonstrate the hydraulic, hydrologic, and groundwater modeling software for the graduate and undergraduate level courses. He has been nominated by the CEE department, and his nomination was supported by letters of recommendations from department faculty and student, and his Student Rating of Instructor (SROI) summary.
