Research essay forthcoming in The Independent Review

Fargo, N.D., May 1 — An essay by Jeff Palm, an undergraduate research fellow at the Center for Public Choice and Private Enterprise, and Dr. Jeremy Jackson, the Center’s director, has been accepted for publication by The Independent Review.

The essay, titled “The Limits of Redistribution and the Impossibility of Egalitarian Ends,” will appear in the journal’s summer 2017 issue. Jackson and Palm analyze the relationship between social capital and wealth and well-being. They conclude that social capital, or social networks and relationships, cannot be transferred from one person to another. Because social capital influences an individual’s wealth and well-being, Jackson and Palm argue that it is impossible for a free society to have an equal distribution of wealth and well-being.

The Independent Review is an acclaimed interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed journal. It focuses on studies related to political economy and government policy, including research from the fields of economics, political science, law, history, philosophy and sociology.
