Application process

Interested undergraduates are invited to apply (see the REU Application page). A panel will review all applications and notify accepted applicants by mid February. Accepted REU participants will join a Facebook community to begin building a network of colleagues.

Growing up STEM begins Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Participants are expected to arrive prior to May 31 to ensure time to move in to on-campus housing. Travel to Fargo via (1) Hector International Airport, (2) Amtrak, or (3) by car.

The program

On Tuesday, May 31, students will participate in an orientation to Fargo, NDSU, and the research projects. Students will meet with their mentors, tour the campus, and end the day with a welcome BBQ.

Throughout the 10 weeks, students will:

  • Meet weekly with their project mentor(s)
  • Meet weekly with their cohort to build research skills and content knowledge
  • Conduct independent research (approximately 40 hours per week)
  • Have fun!

In the final week, students will formally present their research through a poster symposium. Outstanding posters may receive funding to attend and present at a national conference in the 2016/2017 academic year.
