Application process

Interested undergraduates are invited to apply (see REU Application page for guidlelines for applying). A panel will review all applications and notify accepted applicants by early Spring. Accepted REU participants will join a Facebook community to begin building a network of colleagues.

Travel

Growing up STEM begins Tuesday, May 30, 2017. Participants are expected to arrive prior to May 30 to ensure time to move into on-campus housing. Travel to Fargo via (1) Hector International Airport, (2) Amtrak, or (3) by car.

The program

On Tuesday, May 30, students will participate in an orientation to Fargo, NDSU, and the research projects. Students will meet with their mentors, tour the campus, and end the day with a welcome BBQ.

Throughout the 10 weeks, students will:

  • Meet weekly with their project mentor(s)
  • Meet weekly with their cohort to build research skills and content knowledge
  • Conduct independent research (approximately 40 hours per week)
  • Have fun!

In the final week, students will formally present their research through a poster symposium. Outstanding posters may receive funding to attend and present at a national conference in the 2017/2018 academic year.
