  • Lonnie Laffen, BArch ’82 architecture, BA ’82, architectural studies, was among 10 business leaders recognized by Prairie Business magazine with Leaders and Legacies Awards. The publication honored some of the most successful and civic-minded leaders in the region. He is president of JLG Architects, with offices in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota.
  • Susan Quamme, BS ’87 home economics education, MEd ’11, counseling, was recognized with the Exceptional Contributions to Faculty and Student Mentoring Award by the NDSU College of Human Development and Education. She is a member of the NDSU Extension Center for 4-H Youth Development.
  • Paul Craigmile, BS ’83 agricultural economics, was named to the board of directors of American Federal Bank. He is the market president of American Federal in Hallock, Minnesota. He also owns a cattle farm in Hallock.
  • Delrae Schefter, BS ’83 design, joined Design Direction Inc., Fargo, as an interior designer. She has more than 30 years of experience in the design field.
  • Maureen Bentz, AD ’85 nursing, is the new associate director for practice at the North Dakota Board of Nursing. She has 34 years of nursing experience and most recently was inpatient director of maternal child services at Sanford Health in Bismarck, North Dakota.
  • Peter Welte, BS ’89 agricultural economics, was nominated to serve as U.S. District Court judge for North Dakota. He is currently in private practice and previously was state’s attorney for Grand Forks County.
  • Kenneth Hellevang, PhD ’89 agricultural engineering,has been named interim chair of the NDSU Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. He joined the department in 1980. 
  • Mary Jo Hansen, MEd ’86 counseling and guidance, was promoted to clinical supervisor of First Step, a program of The Village Family Service Center. She is a licensed professional counselor and licensed addiction counselor, and has been part of the First Step team since 2012.
  • Alan Slater, BS ’81 agronomy, retired as director of Midwest Malting Barley Operations for Anheuser-Busch Companies Inc. He's been with the company for 34 years, and ran the Moorhead, Minnesota, malt plant. 
  • Marcia McMullen, PhD ’83 plant pathology, was inducted into the North Dakota Agriculture Hall of Fame during the 82nd annual North Dakota Winter Show in Valley City. She was a faculty member in the NDSU plant pathology department for nearly 30 years.
