  • Randy Farwell, BS '83, agricultural economics, was elected to a three-year term on the Moorhead Business Association board of directors. He has sold business band radio equipment, pagers and cellphones for more than 15 years with 702 Communications, Moorhead. June 2015
  • Leonard Floberg, BS '81, business administration and economics, opened Archer Real Estate Services in Fargo. He has more than 30 years of experience in multifamily and investment property portfolio development. June 2015
  • Michael Deschamp, BUS '84, university studies, wrote "One Egg or Two," a collection of short stories that explores family, friendship, and tragedy. It is available on He has taught English for more than 25 years on the high school and college level. June 2015
  • Burton Pfliger, BS '85, animal sciences, was elected president of the American Sheep Industry Association during the organization's annual convention in Reno, Nevada. He is a third-generation sheep rancher, with a flock of about 400 ewes. He chairs the Missouri Slope Wool Pool in Bismarck, North Dakota. May 2015
  • Stephen Hockman, BArch '89, architecture, joined Lenity Architecture as a construction administration manager. The planning and design firm has offices in Salem and Bend, Oregon.   May 2015
  • Sherryl Loya, BS '87, history education, was named Loudoun County Public Schools Principal of the Year and the 2015 recipient of The Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award. She is the principal of Farmwell Station Middle School in Ashburn, Virginia. May 2015
  • John Nelson, BS '83, mathematics education, MS '91, educational administration, was named the Fargo Public School District’s Administrator of the Year. He is principal of Ben Franklin Middle School. He won the state’s Principal of the Year Award in 2010. May 2015
  • Laurie Schwartzwald, BS '89, pharmacy, was re-appointed by Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton to the Task Force on Medical Cannabis Therapeutic Research as a pharmacist member. Her term expires in 2019. She owns Arrowhead Pharmacy in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and GuidePoint Pharmacy with locations in Brainerd, Redwood Falls, Rochester and Worthington, Minnesota. May 2015
  • David Selinger, BS '86, business administration, was named the vice president of business and agriculture banking at Choice Financial. He joined the bank in 2001 and was most recently its assistant vice president. May 2015
  • Duane Maatz, BS '82, agricultural education, was named executive director of the Red River Valley Sugarbeet Growers Association, which represents 2,700 growers in the region. He has 17 years of experience in managing growers’ associations and lobbying in Washington, D.C. He spent six years as the executive director of the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association and more than 10 years as president of the Northern Plains Potato Growers Association in East Grand Forks, Minnesota.
